BELMONT BROWNIES meet on a Thursday between 6pm and 7.30pm. Our exciting programme this term includes a visit to the local fire station, horse riding, archery, cooking and various craft making. We currently have spaces for any girls aged between 7 and 10. It is a golden rule here at Belmont that all shiurim welcome everyone regardless of previous qualification. There is no minimum level of learning required and they are generally interactive and enjoyable as well as worthwhile. At present there is a shiur on Shabbat afternoon between Mincha & Maariv, given by Rabbi Elchonon and a Tuesday night Gemarah Class following Maariv, also given by the Rabbi

Youth, Children's Toddlers

Learning Breakfasts - held after davening on Sunday morning include a guest speaker as well as coffee and croissants - what more could you ask to start your day on an occasional weekend.
We cannot wait to see which community around the globe will be featured next in the 'Jews around the World' series. This long running event features either a film or a speaker about the history and background of a Jewish community anywhere around the world. The evening includes a suitable supper to bring the flavour of that part of the world. So when we heard about the Jews of China - we had Chinese food; we have also heard about the Jews of India, the Southern States of America, the United Kingdom, Persia and Ireland. The most recent event in this series featured the Jews of Italy with a talk by Eli Kienwald, a past Warden of Belmont, which was accompanied by a pizza supper
....And this is just a flavour of the varied productions presented by the LBC so their events are always worth attending and come recommended.

The LBC is broadly our adult education committee organising events with an educational rather than a fund raising focus.

Belmonde is edited by Stuart Burns and is published and distributed in time for Rosh Hashannah each year. The glossy magazine features extensive articles and photography to highlight the shuls events and programs.

There is a wealth of high quality articles beautifully presented that are a credit to the Synagogue. Make sure you read this cover to cover.

Belmont Synagogue is part of a regional cheder which meets every Sunday morning on the premises of Stanmore Synagogue. Children between the ages of 5 and 11 are taught with their peers in a warm, stimulating and friendly environment.

There is also a Bnei Mitzvah Programme called S.M.I.L.E (Sunday Morning Interactive Learning Experience) which is an alternative to the United Synagogue Bar Mitzvah test. Here, the boys and girls in school years 7 and 8 are prepared for the period up to and beyond their Bar or Bat Mitzvah by young, inspiring teachers.

If you would like your child to further their Jewish education, they can also enrol for the two year Jewish studies GCSE course in Philosphy and Ethics which is taught by a qualified teacher. It is open to all children in school Year 9.

During term time 7 Up Club meets every Tuesday evening on the shul premises. It is ably run and managed by Andrew Essex and his team of dedicated leaders. They offer a range of activities from arts and crafts to games and sports and is enjoyed by all of the children (as the title suggests) from age 7 upwards.

Each week the shul office sends out an electronic newsletter by e-mail with a summary of what is happening in the shul during the forthcoming week, including times of services and simachot being celebrated on the coming Shabbat, as well as activities and events happening in and around the shul.

Our entrance foyer is now graced with two new sculptures, made exclusively for our shul. The Tree of Life is an opportunity for members to dedicate leaves to loved ones who have passed away. Already, 70 leaves (out of the 150 or so available) have been chosen to honour the lives of relatives of community members

The Simcha Branch is an opportunity to celebrate births, marriages, wedding anniversaries or just about any great family milestone by way of a "fruit" dedication. With 100 apples available, we already have fruit for 25 celebrations

The shul is asking for a minimum donation of £75 for each leaf or fruit and if you have gift aid then your donation is even more valuable to us. Proceeds from the sponsorships are being used to help upgrade our facilities and one immediate result of the early success of this project is the arrival of new chairs in the shul.

At present, a proportion from each donation is going towards replacing trees lost in the recent fires in the Carmel Forest
